ALERT! Deadline has been extended until January 30, 2004 - Virginia begins recruiting for the first Virginia-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) as part of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) under the Department of Homeland Security.

EMS Advisory Board Meeting

The next State EMS Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2004. The business meeting of the full State EMS Advisory Board will begin at 1:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at "The Place" at Innsbrook. The Place at Innsbrook is located at 4036 Cox Road, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060. Their telephone number is 804-346-2100.

Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) Grant Awards

$1.8 Million Awarded to Assist Non-Profit EMS Agencies.

Ninety non-profit EMS agencies and organizations, primarily volunteer rescue squads, have been awarded matching grants totaling $1,859,582 from the VDH Office of Emergency Medical Services. These Rescue Squad Assistance Fund grants are effective from January 1, 2004 -
December 31, 2004.

Grant awards, based on financial need, are for vehicles, equipment, training courses and
recruitment and retention activities. They are made twice a year and represent the largest portion of the Two-for-Life monies collected annually through motor vehicle registration fees. Close to 44 percent of the $4,181,147.10 in 138 grant requests was funded.
